I got about 10 minutes to work on the Roadmaster this morning while the little one was taking her morning nap, and the big one was happily playing in her sandbox. I confirmed that the AC system had no charge in it, and went to work taking the bent condenser out. I got the top fitting loose with no trouble, but had no room to get a wrench on the bottom one. It looks like I can get a wrench on there if I take the battery out. Then the rust monster struck.
As I cranked on the nut to release the battery, the battery tray crumbled.
There’s not supposed to be any daylight in there.
The battery is still secure, but this puts the final nail in the, “will I rallycross the Roadmaster again” coffin. I’m pretty sure the battery would come flying loose on the first hard “jump.”
Balls.

Tap into your inner Rednek (We all have one!) and slap a bungee cord on it. Good for the next race.
Wagon, semi manual, not brown, turbo because volvo

Real men duct tape and rally on. Absolute worst case scenario zip ties and bungee cords.

Can you get a tray for it? My truck needed one, and a brand new stock replacement ran me something like 26 bucks.

Nope. They didn’t make enough of these to reproduce them. I’ll fashion a hold down out of some flat stock. It’s probably in securely enough still for just driving around, but any accident or rallycrossing will bust it loose.

Bummer. I’m sure that fabricating a replacment is going to save you more time than finding a salvage-yard one that’s just going to be in the same exact condition anyway...

Hahaha! My dad fell for the “free hot tub” thing years ago. Ended up costing him thousands. No thanks, I’ll pass.

I sheared my battery hold bolt off on my 2003 ford f250 last fall when I installed my headers. I should probably fix that.

I think what you meant to say is, “Thank you for clearing my sinuses. Now I shall bring over some beer, and pay you to be in the very presence of that amazing Buick.”
